The first term will cover the following units of study (subject to change):

·         Active Living (Goal Setting, Relaxation Techniques, Cardiovascular Fitness, Muscular Strength, Endurance, Flexibility, Wii Fit, Yoga, Circuit training)

·         Sport Experience (Skill breakdown, Fair Play, Knowledge of Rules, Safety, Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, Volleyball, Low Organized Games)

·         Outdoor Education (Safety Procedures, Map Reading, Hiking, Orienteering)

 

The following outcomes will be covered by completing the above activities and assignments:

·         Set and Modify goals to develop personal fitness to maintain a healthy lifestyle

·         Describe and practice relaxation techniques for stress management

·         Participate in activities that enhance cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility

·         Demonstrate sport specific skills and be able to break them down into their components:  preparation, action, follow through

·         Participate in a wide variety of sports and games

·         Demonstrate an understanding of rules with regard to safety

·         Find a desired direction of travel by taking a compass bearing

·         Know and understand the concept of reading a map

·         Participate in at least one land based seasonal activity that practices environmental safety

Assessment and Evaluation

~Assessment is the systematic evaluation of gathering information on student learning.

~Evaluation is the process and analyzing, reflecting upon, and summarizing assessment information, and making judgements or decisions based upon information gathered.

 

ASSESSMENT CODES & MARKS

Explanation of Letter Grades:

The student’s achievement is evaluated in terms of expected learning outcomes established by the Department of Education for each grade level and for each subject, or individualized outcomes developed by the student’s Program Planning Team.  The following letter grades are used to summarize the student’s performance over the course of the term and in relation to these outcomes.

A

The student consistently demonstrates achievement of the expected learning outcomes addressed during the current reporting period.  The student’s work may exceed program expectations.

B

The student demonstrates achievement of most of the expected learning outcomes addressed during the current reporting period.  The student’s work meets program expectations.

C

The student demonstrates achievement of some of the expected learning outcomes addressed during the current reporting period.  The student’s work approaches program expectations.

D

The student rarely demonstrates achievement of the expected learning outcomes addressed during the current reporting period.  The student’s work does not meet program expectations.

 

I will also use the following 4-point marking scheme to complement the A-D scale:
