Enhanced Physical Education Program

Auburn Drive Family of Schools

Once again this year, the HRSB has received funding to implement an additional 30 minutes of physical activity per week for students in grade 3-6. At Astral Drive Elementary, this program is being coordinated by Tom McNeil. The goal of the Enhanced Physical Education program is to offer extra opportunities to enhance physical fitness levels and to promote an awareness of physical activity. The aim is to challenge the students to their fullest potential while fostering a healthy active lifestyle, which students can embrace throughout their lives. The program values developing positive attitudes towards sportsmanship and the benefits of physical activities and fitness, in a safe and enjoyable environment.

It is important to note that each 30 minute period will always take place either outdoors or inside the classroom. As with all Physical Education classes, students are expected to wear proper attire during classes. Proper footwear is important for functionality and safety (No dress shoes, sandals, Crocs etc.) Since some classes are outside and it is getting colder, sneakers or boots are acceptable. Furthermore, students should not be wearing jeans to class. Any pants that provide some form of flexibility are good (jogging pants, track/splash pants, etc.) Snow pants will be permitted because students will be outside some days in the winter when the weather is cooperating.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at mcneilt6@staff.ednet.ns.ca
