Internet Search 1

 

Using the internet for searches, your goal is to find the best search method for each question.  You must read through and use all the notes you've taken so far in order to execute these searches properly. Include the command you used for the search and the result of the search.

The questions are to be answered in the following way:

1. Copy the question to your page (question only)

2. Tell me which search engine you used.  (i.e Google, Altavista)

3. Tell me what you typed to get the answer. EXAMPLE I typed: "Nova Scotia" flag +"provincial flower"

4. What did you get as the number of hits

5. What is the answer to the question and on what site did you find the answer

Important!!  Type out the answer you found.....do not cut and paste!  You are 5 times as likely to remember the answer if you type it out.  At least that is what all of the students in the past have told me and is reflected in their marks.

It is also important to keep hand written notes on your questions. The quizzes are open hand written notes (if you have them ;-)...

2. Use a synonym search for the word "job".  List the top 4 answers you get.  How many hits did you get?

3. Find Manolo Blahnik shoes sizes six to eight for sale. How many hits did you get?  

4. Find used curling shoes for sales sizes seven to nine. How many hits did you get?  

5. Find Motorcycles for sale in Halifax for $1000 and up. How many hits did you get?  

6. Do the same search for Motorcycles except look for ones that are less than $3000. How many hits did you get?  

7. The lyrics to a song are: "mamma's little baby loves ______ bread".  Find out what the blank is.  How many hits did you get?  

 

8. Do your own "full word wild card" search and include it in your answer. How many hits did you get?
 

9. Find a picture of Steve Irwin in AltaVista

 

10. Take a screen grab of  Google "advanced search" and place it in your assignment.
