What courses do I take in grade 10?

We strongly recommend that you take the IB Diploma Preparation (or pre IB) courses that you will find described fully in specific course listings in the Citadel High School Course Selection book, but for now these are the 5 pre IB courses

  1. English 10 IB
  2. French 10 IB
  3. Math 10 IB (this course is scheduled for two semesters and is designed to prepare students for the Math SL or Math Studies courses in grade 11. Alternatively, if the student chooses to leave the IB stream, this grade 10 Math courses will prepare the student very completely for Advanced Math 11)
  4. Science 10 IB
  5. History 10 IB

Each of these courses is designed with the purpose of developing skills that are needed for the successful completion of the IB Diploma. While these courses parallel the regular academic courses in grade 10, curriculum is covered more quickly and a greater emphasis will placed on independent work, research, writing, oral communication and experimentation.

French Immersion students will note that grade 10 pre IB courses are offered in French.

Please note - in addition to the pre IB courses listed above, you will take 2 electives. These may include Art, Drama, PAL or others. If you are in French Immersion you should consider taking as many grade 10 Immersion courses as possible - since you will also be hoping to obtain a French Immersion Certificate when you graduate.

A sample schedule looks like this -

Semester 1 Semester 2
Pre IB Math 10 Pre IB Math 10
Pre IB English 10 Dance 11
Music 10 Pre IB History 10
Pre IB Science 10 Pre IB French 10

Students will be required to stay in their pre IB courses for the entire year so they get a complete exposure to all of the pre IB courses and then can make informed decisions when choosing courses for grade 11.
