The Extended Essay is a part of the Hexagon Core that IBO describes as central to the development of our students. During their grade 11 and 12 years the students will investigate a research question of their choice and will be challenged to write a 4000 word paper on that topic. Here is a brief description from the IBO of the Extended Essay. Extended Essay Guide This is a temporary link. Extended Essay Timeline for 2011 Exams (to be revised) Students have been given their own handbook and calendar of dates. Extended Essay Advisor Tracking Sheets (to be revised) These are included in the student handbook. More Exemplars These essays are all deemed to be "excellent" by the IBO and have been given marks ranging from 29 - 36 points out of 36. Mr. John Messenger and the President of the University of King's College have been offering Extended Essay workshops for the past three years. Please be aware that they plan to run another such session in the spring of 2011. The spring session provided each student with example essays and an opportunity to "test" the rubric for scoring the criteria for the Extended Essay.
