2011 Capital Region Ski Season

Race Dates:

Race 1: Feb 1, 2011
Race 2: Feb 8, 2011
Race 3: March 1, 2011
Provincials are March 9, 2011

Cancellations

1. If the Truro School Board (Chinecto) or HRSB are cancelled the day of the race the
skiing is also cancelled and scheduled for the next day.
We can not travel through a cancelled board.


Things to pay attention to...

1.  Teams are made up of 4-5 men/women skiers.  Schools may have more
then one team in each division.
2.  Individuals can race for the individual medals only.
3.  Racers need to race in two of three events to qualify.
4.  There are two divisions, Intermediate and Senior.
5.  Forward teams/name of each racer to Derek Nichols,
dnichol1@staff.ednet.ns.ca at lunch time the day before the race.

Race 1 Info

Date:  Feb. 1st
This race will be done after the Truro board has their race.
Teams are asked to be at WW by 9am.
Coaches meeting at 9:15am. This meeting will also serve as the information session for
new coaches and advisers...
Race will probably start b/w 12-1pm
Please forward your team names to Derek by Monday, Jan. 31 at 12noon.

  Skiing – Downhill

REGULATION 27

27.1 Age Classification

        Senior – Under 19 years as of September 30th

        Intermediate – Under 16 years as of September 30th

        Junior – Under 14 as of September 30th

27.2 Events

        Giant Slalom

27.4 Awards

        -    Championship Banner to winning school.

        -    NSSAF Gold Medallions (6) to members of championship team and coach.

        -    NSSAF Silver Medallions (6) to members of runners-up team and coach.

        -    NSSAF Bronze Medallions (6) to members of 3rd place team and coach.

        -    NSSAF Gold, Silver, Bronze Medallions to top three individuals in each Division.

27.5 A school may enter a male team and/or a female team. Each team shall consist of a maximum of five skiers.

         - Schools may also enter individual skiers. An individual skier can only compete for the individual championship.

27.6 Eligibility:

              - In order to compete in the NSSAF final, an athlete must have competed in at least two regular season races.

 27.7 CSA approved helmets must be worn

27.8 No Giant Slalom or Downhill Racing Suits will be permitted.

1 Instructor $60.00

Coaching is Wed, Thurs, and Fri nights only, and to be

Teams must pay on race day a $15.00 per team/per

school fee to Wentworth.

Alpine Responsibilty Code

1. Always stay in control. You must be able to stop, or avoid other people or objects

2. People ahead of you have the right-of-way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.

3. Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above.

4. Before starting downhill or merging onto a trail, look uphill and yield to others

5. If you are involved in or witness a collision or accident, you must remain at the scene and identify yourself to the Ski Patrol.

6. Always use proper devices to help prevent runaway equipment.

7. Observe and obey all posted signs and warnings.

8. Keep off closed trails and closed areas.

9. You must not use lifts or terrain if your ability is impaired through use of alcohol or drugs.

10. You must have sufficient physical dexterity, ability and knowledge to safely load, ride and unload lifts. If in doubt, ask the lift attendant.
