ROOTS  (Les racines)

This unit provides an opportunity for children to explore their family's history. They will identify the important people they consider as members of their family and extended family and gain understanding that families have historic roots. They will explore how theoles of family members change over time and recognize that families everywhere have varied traditions, rituals, and celebrations. This unit also [provides an opportunity to introduce the children to age-appropriate research by having them "gather" or collect pictures or items and bring them to share with the class.

What better way to help us celebrate "who we are"; our roots, family, and heritage, than to share our stories.  Celebrating our differences and similarities is a big part of the Primary Curriculum. With this in mind, I am asking you to put on your thinking caps and help your child in creating a poster (bristol board), a book, or anything else that will help them (and us) understand their roots, heritage and family (immediate and extended.)

Possible things to include would be:

1.  Your family tree (including: grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins)

2.  Flags of both parents heritage (ex: Irish, Scottish, Acadian, Spanish, etc.)

3.  Your family name crest

4. Maps of where your families come from historically

5.  Pictures/photos of immediatwe and extended family, family traditions, cultural cel;ebrations, etc.

6.  Artifacts and/or special family heirlooms

There is no wrong or right way to complete this project. Use your imagination and have fun working with your child on this project. I ask that you please complete this project by Monday February 8th. We will be sharing our unique creations in that week and the following one.

Thank you again so much for your continuous involvement in your child's learning.

Sincerely,

 Mme Marie
