May 8th – May 16th

  • 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 students have continued their study of sentence structure.
  • All students have watched the 1951 film Strangers on a Train and have drafted or are in the process of drafting their movie reviews.  8-5 students are expected to hand-in their drafts on Tuesday, May 22nd, and 8-4 students are expected to do so on Wednesday, May 23rd.
  • All students have complete a research activity, and grades should be handed back in the near future.
  • Students have continued to meet with Mr. McMullen and discuss the use of text-features in a small reading.

Upcoming

  • A study of the reading strategy “synthesizing”.
  • Rant performances on May 23rd.
  • Students will analyze how to write “responses” and will write them.

April 27th – May 7th

  • All classes have published their rants; they should be ready to view on my website by May 23rd.  In addition, students will be performing them on May 23rd.
  • All classes have finished presenting their text feature presentations.
  • 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 students continued their study of sentence structure.  8-4 and 8-5 students will begin the study of sentence structure in the near future.
  • 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 students have begun writing a movie review.  8-4 and 8-5 students will begin the study of the “movie review” shortly.
  • During the next few reading classes, all students will conference with Mr. McMullen about their use of text features.

April 18th – April 26th

  • 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 have completed their study of “the rant” and are going to start publishing them on April 27th.
  • 8-4 and 8-5 students will soon be done studying “the rant” and are going to be publishing them on May 7th.
  • All students have completed or will soon be completing a presentation that displays their ability to use text features to aid their understanding of text.
  • 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 students have continued their study on sentence structure.  They are currently studying compound sentences.

March 30th – April 17th

  • All students have completed a novel and have collaborated about their novel via a blog with other grade eight students.
  • All students are drafting rants and applying various techniques to create humour in their writing.
  • 8-1, 8-2 and 8-3 students have continued their study on sentence structure.
