Create a Web Page in Microsoft Word

Before you begin

You must think of a theme or subject that interests you.  It can be a hobby, sport, a place, actor, singer, T.V show, movie, Mr.E....whatever you want it to be.  You will create a web page about your theme.  You will need to find the information on the internet.  Follow the directions below and Good Luck!  I will post the webpages to the school website.

Preparing information for Web development

When designing a Web page, it is good practice to insert information and images into a table. This helps to maintain the chosen format of the document when it is uploaded to the Internet. This tutorial uses the example of creating a Web site with a student or teacher as the subject matter.

1. Open Microsoft Word.
2. On the Table menu, point to Insert, and then click Table.
3. Select two columns and five rows. Click OK.
4. To adjust the width of a row, move your cursor over the line of the table you want to move until you see a double-ended arrow appear. Click and drag the line to the desired width.

Inserting pictures

You can create a heading by using Word Art and insert the images that were saved to a file. Before doing so, you must make some adjustment to the table.

1. Highlight the first row of the table. On the Table menu, click Merge Cells.
2. Place the cursor in the first row of the table.
3. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click Word Art.
4. Select a style and click OK.
5. Type in your name and click OK.
6. Click the Center alignment button.
7. In the second row on your table, place your cursor in the first column.
8. From the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click From File.
9. Locate your saved image and click Insert. If you haven't found any pictures, do so before completing this part.
10. Drag the resize handles of your image to adjust the size of your picture. If the resize handles do not appear automatically, click the image.
11. Continue to insert all other images into your table.

Adding the information

You can add the content to any of the cells in the table that do not have an image.

In the cell next to your photo, type a brief overview the theme.

Cells that do not have a picture inserted need to be merged to become one continuous cell for text to flow all the way across the Web page. For two cells side-by-side that are not merged, the Web page will have two columns of text.

1. Highlight the cells you would like to merge. On the Table menu, click Merge Cells.
In the remaining cells, type information about your family, your hobbies and interests, and a list of favorite things.
2. Adjust the font color and size. To adjust the font color or size, select the text to be changed. On the Format menu, click Font. In the Font dialog box, you can change color or size, add effects, or adjust spacing for the selected text.
3. To make the table appear invisible, click in the upper left cell of the table and drag to the lower right cell of the table. The entire table should be highlighted.
4. On the Format menu, click Borders and Shading.
5. On the Borders tab, select None.
6. To view your document as a Web page, click Web Page Preview on the File menu. An instance of your Web browser opens, showing the table in HTML format. Close the browser to return to your working document.
7. On the File menu, click Save As Web Page.
8. Type a title for the document and save to a special folder just for this Web site.
9. The document is saved in HTML format and can be uploaded to the World Wide Web.
