History 11

Seven Years’ War: A World War     (1756-1763)

Caused by:

ü  Britain’s efforts to strengthen its global naval supremacy

ü  Russia’s expansion in Eastern Europe

Battles were fought outside of Europe as well, in North America, West Africa, the Caribbean, and India.

The British were able to capture several key points, such as Quebec City, Montreal, and Louisbourg from the French.

Peace was finally made in Paris in 1763 (Treaty of Paris).  France was not interested in reclaiming New France, but chose to retain only the small islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon, off the coast of Newfoundland.
