Ms. MacInnes was born and raised in the Halifax region. She currently lives in Beaver Bank with her boyfriend, Brent and her cat, Skratch. Her favourite pass-times include all styles of dance (jazz being her favourite), reading, cooking & baking, learning, healthy lifestyle, yoga, movies, Wii, Rock Band (PS3) and knitting. Her teaching specialties are Biology (science) and French immersion French language arts; however, her teaching interests include a wide range of subjects.

Ms. MacInnes completed the late French immersion program in high school and then moved on to pursue studies in health and science. Following high school, she received her Phlebotomy certificate from NSCC and worked at the VG hospital on their casual blood collection team throughout her post-secondary studies. After deciding that Nursing was not her chosen career path, she transferred into a general arts and science degree program. She received her degree in French and Biology from Saint Mary's University in Halifax and then completed her Education degree at Université Sainte-Anne. Ms. MacInnes also has work experience in tourism (Senior Travel Counsellor, Nova Scotia Tourism, Culture & Heritage - 5 years) and insurance (Plan Member Administrator, Manulife Financial - 2 years).

One of Ms. MacInnes’ passions is dance. She has danced for more than 20 years competitively. She was a member of Footnotes Dance Troupe at Joseph Wallin School of Dance (Dartmouth) and with this troupe, danced at Disney World, Florida in Spring of 2001. Ms. MacInnes has explored ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap, modern, highland, step, hip-hop, African, ballroom and belly dancing. She currently dances and competes with Funktion based out of RSI Danceworks (Enfield) and performs jazz, contemporary and hip-hop.
