Welcome Back - This website is for Grade 9 Science and will have a running blog of what materials we have covered, due dates, test outlines etc. If you miss a class, this is the first place you should check to find out what you missed and then you MUST check in with me as well.
As per the DoE Homework guidelines - REGULAR REVIEW for this class is required. I recommend 10 minutes per night only 5 times per week.

April 30th: Chemistry Unit Test then work on the Research Project while I am away. April 23rd: Introducing Shell Diagrams. April 3rd: Chemistry Test Day. Also this week we will finish calculate the neutrons and start how the periodic table is designed and works. March 5th: This week we will be looking at Periodic Table and how it works. There will be a Symbols Quiz this week that will count. Feb 27th: Lots of juggling of schdule this week with JHLA's going on. Students are to learn all single letter elements and group 1,2,17 and 18. More to come later. We will be learning about the periodic table this week amoung other things. Feb 20th: Continue on with the chemistry unit. Students should start learning all the single letter elements and symbols. Feb 13th: Unit test is today as per parent e-mail. Second class of the week will be Chemistry. 3rd class of the week lost for PD day Friday. Students should learn all the names and symbols for all the single letter symbols on the periodic table. Jan 30th: Working on advanced Ohm's Law problems as a class. Quiz on Ohms Law mid week. Introduce Power Law. Start prepping for a unit test in roughly 2 weeks. Date and outline will be released as we get closer. Begin prep with symbols, theory, circuit drawings and ohms law. Jan 23rd: Finishing Circuit Drawings this week. Start Ohms Law. Jan 16th: Continue on with circuit drawings now that all series and parallel notes are complete. Jan 9th: Electrical Theory. New vocab and symbols introduced. Atom Quiz (does not count) Jan 4th: Built Rebops and completed the work sheet as a group. Start electricity. Jan 3rd: Returned all marking. Demo of the Strawberry DNA Lab. Did the prep work for Rebops. Dec 5th: Continuing with practice problems for Genetics and Punnett's Squares. Quiz on Wed. Test next week. on Genetics. Nov 23rd: Flipped today to TE after Genetics Activity passed in. Nov 21st: Complete last weeks Genetic Activity and Data Graph. Pass in the activity for grade on Wed Nov 23rd Nov 17th: Started Genetics, resessive and dominant genes with an activity. Nov 14th: Test Day. Microscope Drawings are now late. Nov 9th: Test review, test is Tuesday Nov 15th. Starting new work. Nov 8th: Gave this class to TE due to the lost day on Friday. 9-1 was 1 class ahead of 9-2 anyway. Nov 7th: Day 3 microscope project. Project due Thursday. Nov 1: Started the major project - Microscope Drawing Project Oct 31st: Happy Halloween! Work time to complete the Fetal Development Project. Pass in this class. Oct 24th: Day 2 Fetal Development Charts. Oct 20th: Continue Fetal Development and discussion. Start Fetal Development charts. Oct 18th: First day on Fetal Development. Oct 17th: Carried on with Meiosis material. Quiz tomorrow that counts. Mitosis / Meiosis Comparesion review sheet is to be completed for homework if not done in class. Oct 13th: Passed back tests and went over so students could make corrections. Passed back any other materials that I had not previously returned. Oct 11th: Mr Mac will be out but will be in the building. Vocab quiz on Meiosis today. Show meiosis videos as well. Oct6th: Complete Meiosis Page 2 and Page 3 notes. Oct4th: Start the first of the theory and introduction to Meiosis. Text book assignment for both classes due Wed, Oct 5th. Oct 3rd: Flipped this science class to Tech Ed to make up for the flip on Friday. Sept 30th: Flipped a Tech Ed class to science and provided day 2 work class on text book assignment. Sept 28th: Test Day. Sept 27th: Collect Karyotype exercise worksheet (I was disappointed in the number of assignments not ready to pass in today!) Start Day 1 of text book questions assignment. Homework tonight is test prep only. More time will be provided on the textbook questions after the test. Sept 26th: Give quiz back, go over answers, go over new marking scheme. Do the build the Karyotype exercise. This exercise is due next day and is for homework if not finished in class. Sept 22nd: Vocab quiz today. Finished Mitosis Review and concluded all material on Mitosis. Introduced and taught all material on Karyotypes for the test. Build a Karyotype activity next day. Bring scissors, markers and glue to next class. Sept 20th: Class time to finish Mitosis worksheet. Go over work sheet. Mitosis questions. Test coming next week - Wed Sept 28th. Bring scissors, markers and glue to next class. Sept 19th: Cell parts quiz (does not count). FInish Mitosis notes Page 3. Show brainpop on Mitosis. Show cells alive Website. Mitosis worksheet. Sept 14th: Go over Cell Review Sheet. Start Mitosis Notes. Sept 13th: Finish the Cell as a Factory Worksheet. Give the final Cell Review Worksheet. Sept 12th: Show the Brainpop Video: Cell Structures. Cell Organelle review sheet work time. Move on to the Cell as a Factory. Students that are having difficulty with the cell parts material should create a visual dictionary as discussed in class on 3x5 cue cards. Name on one side, definition on the other and use them to play memory games with your friends. Sept 8th: Answered text book questions on cells. Started the cell review work sheet. Will finish this work sheet off next day. Sept 6th: First day of classes, covered class rules and expectations and outlined the materials that we will cover this year. Began cell review. |
