Assessment and Evaluation

The emphasis in the grade 7 instrumental program is learning to play the instrument and achieving the outcomes that pertain to playing. There will be many opportunities throughout the term for a student to show evidence of learning, as assessment is an ongoing process. One area is the scales component, which requires the student to play individually several scales. These scales must be played with good tone, correct fingering and with an even tempo. The students will be tested approximately every 2 weeks on a different scale or articulation. Practicing at home will be crucial in order to meet the performance outcomes. Twenty minutes a day is recommended.
