Students will create simple animated sequences using "paint" and Windows MovieMaker. Students should have some experience with drawing in paint and will acquire skills in moviemaker. The final project will be a 45 second animated short movie. Students will draw 45 original drawings in paint |

4 one hour classes should be enough for basic animation. You may want to extend if students are using detailed drawings. |

Task 1: Students will brainstrom an activity that can be "animated" and shown in fluid action with "paint" drawn characters. It should be fairly simplistic. For example: Walking a dog, flying a kite. Task 2: Create a simplistic storyboard showing the starting and ending of the action. Stick people are the easiest to draw and show movement. The storyboard can be six boxes in length. It is an opportunity for students to plan out what will happen next. Task 3: Students will draw their first scene. Have students save it as scene1. Next have students erase a part of their character and re-draw moved slightly. Save it as scene2. Continue this process. Students will draw 45 pictures. Task 4 Open Movie Maker and import your 45 pictures. Before dragging your pictures into the storyboard, go into TOOLS, OPTIONS, ADVANCED and change picture duration to 1 sec. Now each picture will flash for one second when viewed. Task5 Create a title with your name, and class. Go to edit movie, make title, make title at the beginning. (optional step 5b) Task 5b If you have microphones students can narrate sound effects over their project. This would be a good time to talk about foley and how sound effects are made. You could also import sound effects as sound files. Task 6 Save as a playable video file. Go to finish movie, save to my computer, and follow the steps to the finish. The final project is now playable without moviemaker and can be played with windows player.

The storyboard done in the early tasks can be assessed as a completed or not completed task. It is also a good time for student feedback. The final project will be marked with a rubric and will include teacher comments and a student reflection section. |
