Overview of unit/lessons/activities (assumptions of prior knowledge/learning)

1st    Using the internet students will search for the Elements of Art and Principles of Design.

2nd    Students are to compile a list of the Elements/Principles then label and visually demonstrate an example of each using PAINT program.

3rd       Students will use the PAINTS tools to create an abstract painting that must meet the criteria of incorporating all the Principles and Elements into their finished abstract painting.

Correlations to ICT and curriculum outcomes

ICT Outcomes addressed:

RPSD 9.6 Select and refine a research topic, according to teacher-provided criteria to fulfill a curriculum requirement.

CT 9.3 Critically evaluate how style, form, source, and medium influence the accessibility validity and meaning and meaning of information with independence.

CT 9.1 Use language, in a range of aural, print, media, and electronic forms to explore and express their thinking; and interact, negotiate, and collaborate with others in order to build their understanding.

ART Outcomes addressed;   -Manipulate and organize design elements to achieve planned compositions

-Assess and evaluate various art media and their ability to convey messages and meaning

                                               - Analyze and use a variety of management development techniques

-Demonstrate increasing complexity in art skills and techniques

-Realize the direct influence expanding technology has had on the individual and society

(outcomes timeline- "By the end of grade nine..")

Projected timeline for preparation and for carrying out activities

For 1st step: One class (45 min.-1hr.)

        2nd step: Two classes

         3rd step: Two classes

Total timeline – Five classes

Equipment Requirements: (computers, software, etc)

Computers with internet access and PAINT program.

Teaching materials provided (Blacklines, worksheets, templates, teacher materials)

-Instruction handout to students

-YOUR assessment rubric (IDEALLY they will constantly refer to it while executing each project as they work through it.)

Resources available for teacher/student use (websites, references, etc)

1 Google : Elements of Art then Principles of Design

2 PAINTS :Abstract example of Horse Head

Detailed instructions for each activity or lesson (teacher notes, activity information, learning strategies, teacher role, student roles)

*SEE OVERVIEW OF LESSON/ACTIVITY IN SECTION ABOVE

-base  student handout on them, as well, supply a rubric form that they are to constantly refer to as they work through the activities.

Student products expected

Final product will be a PAINTS generated Abstract Art work that simultaneously incorporates every Element of Art and Principle of Design

Samples (include teacher notes, assessment information, student work if available)

Example of Step two: student activity (Listing of the elements with their visual definitions)

Example of  Step three: Final abstract (Incorporating all elements and principles) Click on link, show  abstract works and have students point out the Elements and Principles.

Student activity – students now experiment with PAINT tools to create their own abstract bearing in mind the main criteria ( their abstract must incorporate all Elements and Principles.)

Example of Final Product Abstract

Logistics (organization, grouping, management issues, access to technology)

Ideally, despite the availability of computers, students should be paired up.

(strong / technologically experienced student with weaker / less technologically experienced student)

Assessment information (e.g., rubrics for products and/or process)

You may want to use my RUBRIC, or a rubric of your own design. Any rubric can easily be tweaked to address specific outcomes that would apply (art/technology)
