Overview of unit/lessons/activities (assumptions of prior knowledge/learning) This is an independent learning opportunity in which students will explore the art of poetry.  They will first become experts on an assigned set of poetic devices.  They will then use this knowledge to study and examine the works of some of the great poets from the past.  Each group will be expected to share their findings with the class by a means of oral presentation.
