At the West, the art students have begun to explore the power of art in representing social injustice and issues in our world. From global warming to genocide, students have discussed and debated serious issues facing our world. The resulting artwork represents individual students opinions. The Community Art Pilot Project is an initiative which brings together artists and students to create murals in public places. The project is a creative means of implementing the Cultural Plan and the Graffiti Management Plan in HRM. The artwork will ideally act as a deterrent to graffiti vandalism and increase civic pride. Students at Halifax West were involved in the planning and painting of a mural on the corner of the Bedford Highway and Melody Drive. If you want to find out more about this creative pilot project, visit the link.
