Your exam project this semester will utilize many of the materials and techniques you have already used in class. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skill with these materials and their potential for creative manipulation.
You will be given a sheet that is titled Image Development Taxonomy. From this sheet you are to select two terms (e.g. fragment, evolve, distort), that you will use as themes for the development of your images and compositions.
To begin, you may find it helpful to work from a photographic image that is not overly complicated or simplistic. An object, still-life, landscape, person or animal would all be appropriate choices.
You will complete TWO separate works of art at least 12”X18” using the following methods and/or materials. The two assignments will be evaluated individually out of 50, for a total out of 100. Your exam is worth 15% of your final grade in art, so work hard and be creative!!
Tonal pencil drawing.
(Demonstrate value through shading) You may find it helpful to recall some of the topics covered in the art history power-point presentations. Some of the topics covered included innovative approaches to subject matter and non-traditional uses of materials. I would like you to explore the potential of the materials you choose by combining materials and using more than one material or medium in your work if at all possible.
Some of these topics included: Surrealism, Abstraction, Expressionism, Impressionism, Pop Art, Cubism, Magic Realism, Symbolist Painting, Romanticism, Fauvism etc.
