EXAMPLES

Your exam project this semester will utilize many of the materials and techniques you have already used in class and with which you are familiar. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skill with these materials and their potential for creative manipulation.

To begin, you will find an image that is a reasonable size and not overly complicated or simplistic. An object, landscape, person, or animal would all be appropriate choices.  Please check with me first to ensure the image is satisfactory before you start.

You will complete Four works of art at least 9”X12” using the following methods and materials.  The four assignments will be evaluated individually and collectively for a total of 100.

Each artwork that you create must be different in composition from the others. Use the following techniques to modify and change your image from its original format.

Enlarging- Take your original image and increase its size, showing more detail of one part of the image.

Simplification- reduces the amount of detail in the image; reduce it to light and dark areas or positive and negative space.

Abstraction-creates an expressive abstract version of your image, change the colors to make it more expressive.

Cubism- Reduce your image to geometric shapes combined with unusual perspectives and points of view.

Repetition- Take one or more elements in your image and repeat them.

Fragmentation- Splitting or fragmenting an image like it is made of glass.

Distortion-changing the subject through deformation or dissolving.

Disguising- Camouflage the image in the background.
