This month we will be completing a Restaurant Menu project which will encourage and reinforce the use of strong adjectives in our writing. The project was assigned Oct.  11th and will be worked on in class.  The following is the outline of the project as well as the rubric.

Mouth-Watering Menu Project

Adjectives

You will be completing an in-class project where you have to create an imaginary Restaurant and design a menu.  The purpose is to use adjectives in your Menu.  Please use the following outline to help you with you project.

 

  1. Choose a creative name for your Restaurant (think about what type of food you will be serving, is it a restaurant for Adults? Kids? Dogs? Be creative. Write the name of the Restaurant at the top of your Menu.

 

  1. Choose 5 different food items to include on your menu.  Come up with a creative name for each food item depending on the theme of your restaurant. (You may include more than 5 if you wish). You may also wish to include prices!

 

  1. Beside each food item on your menu, you will have to write a description of that food which includes 5 different adjectives.

 

  1. Highlight or underline all adjectives in your food descriptions.

 

  1. Decorate your Menu according to your theme.  You may draw pictures, add color, Neatness counts!

 

·       You will have to do a rough draft to be edited by Mrs. O. Use the checklist below to make sure you have included everything

Writers Workshop- Student's will be exploring Poetry through reading, viewing, writng and sharing their own forms of poetry.  Students will be introduced to different forms of poetry and then continue to develop their own.  Students will compile a booklet which includes their own versions of a couplet, acrostic, haiku, tanka, limerick, shape and cinquain.

Readers Workshop will continue to focus on the important strategies for reading.  There will be an emphasis on Inferring over the remainder of the year.  Students will learn to look at poetry, advertisements, picture books, and cartoons and make inferences based on clues from the text they have heard or read or through pictures.
