Three Dimensional Self Portrait Assignment - Due February 17
Marvelous Monologue #1 - Performances begin on March 4.
The Character Concept Sheet and your script is to be handed in on the day you perform your monologue.
Improvised Playlet (Putting Down the Dog) - This is an in-class group assignment (groups of 3 or 4) assigned on March 6 and performed on March 10. Click here to view the evaluation rubric.
Creating Context Assignment and Decontextualized Dialogues - Students were to create a scene lasting at least 3 minutes using one of the dialogues on the page. The context of the scene (environment and character relationship) were to be clearly established in the scene without adding any extra dialogue. This is an in-class partner activity assigned on March 24, and presented on March 25. Click here to view the evaluation rubric. Each group must also submit a scene worksheet.
Ten-Minute Play Script - DUE DATE - April 6 by 2:20 pm. This assignment follows the same format as the Eastern Front Theatre Ten-Minute Play Contest. Students are encouraged to develop their plays in accordance with these rules for submission to the Eastern Front contest in the spring of 2009.
For students who are looking for a really useful guide for the playwriting process, check out The Young Playwrights Page. This site contains step-by-step suggestions for creating a quality piece for the stage.
For students who are looking for scriptwriting templates to use in MS Word, the BBC has a series of Script Smart templates in their Writersroom. The UK edition of Script Smart Gold has a macro for a STAGE script layout that allows you to create a style similar to Eastern Front Theatre's Format #1. The US edition has a macro that creates a style similar to Format #2. They might take a bit of getting used to, but they seem to work well.
Drama Workshops - This event will be taking place in early April. Students will be presenting a variety of workshops in the dramatic arts to children in grades primary to four.
