1) Examine the different aspects of text that contribute to meaning

2) Demonstrate an awareness that texts produce ideologies, identities and positions.

3) Evaluate ways in which both genders and various culture and socio-economic groups are portrayed in media texts.

Assessment method - Oral responses to directed questions

Written responses to questions.

Students will begin by reading "Jack and Jill".

Teacher will model how various aspects of the text contribute to meaning.

Students will be asked to write out what the story can tell us about society and how it views gender roles.

Students will be asked to generate a list of positive traits for boys and girls and explain why these traits are considered positive.
