Math

For the rest of January and into February we will be working on Area and Surface Area. Continuing to practice Multiplication facts every night will greatly help with this unit!

Math Assessments

Every few weeks in class we will be doing a math quiz. This will be based on outcomes discussed in class. Please see my homework page to find out if a quiz has been assigned. The day before the quiz there will be a review that will be sent home. There will be no surprises on the quiz.

You may have noticed on recent quizzes, that we no longer put a total percentage score at the top of the page. We are now marking quizzes based on a new system. For every set of questions on a quiz there will be a grade six curriculum outcome listed above with three boxes.

Got It-This means that the student has demonstrated a complete understanding of the outcome

On the Way-The student demonstrates a general understanding of the outcome, with a few significant errors.

Not Yet-The student has not yet demonstrated their understanding of this outcome. Extra help is recommended.

Here at Seaside, if a student does not do very well on a quiz, it is completely OK! Students are encouraged to come to extra Math help on Wednesday afternoons, or at some other point in the day if that is not a good time. We will work on the outcomes together, then I will raise their mark once they demonstrate an understanding of the outcome.

Students are STRONGLY encouraged to come see me if they have any problems with a math quiz. I am more than happy to provide as much help as needed to improve their marks. I will always write on the quiz if I think they should come see me. However, some students choose not to come, and therefore I am unable to improve their marks. I will do whatever I can to help, but I need to see that the students want to improve!
