Pre-Calculus 12:  The Wiki Photo Project

Objective:  I want you to careful examine the world around you to search for unexpected or hidden mathematical content within ordinary objects and surroundings.  You are to take a digital photo of something that has an  underlying mathematical structure and then upload that picture to our Pre-calculus wiki.

Groups:  You should find a partner to work with (make sure at least one of you has access to a digital camera or cell phone camera).  Your group will upload one photo.

The Photo: The photo you take should relate to mathematics in some way.  In order to demonstrate the relationships you see in the photo, you will edit the photo using a program like MS Paint to overlay the mathematical function or component that you see in the photo.  Try to be creative and find a unique, fun or interesting subject to photo.

A Trig Photo:  The first photo you take should have something to do with trigonometry.  It might have something to do with a unit circle, right triangle ratios, or a trig function.  This first photo should be uploaded no later than the end of the day on October 21th.

A Polynomial Function Photo:  This photo should show a polynomial function (either a quadratic, cubic, or quartic).  This photo should be uploaded to the website no later than the beginning of school on November 19th.  We'll draw the function on it at school on Monday using Geometer's Sketchpad.
