Objective: The grade 12 math curriculum contains a list of
specific outcomes. These specific
curriculum outcomes identify what each student should know and what skills they
should be able to perform at the conclusion of the course. The
provincial exam
is a cumulative assessment of these curriculum outcomes. The objective of this
project is to create an electronic portfolio that clearly and concisely explains
these outcomes and connects each outcome with one or more questions that could be
used to assess understanding of the outcome. By using a
wiki located on the world wide
web, students in the class can collaborate to develop these explanations and
share the work that we do with these outcomes.
Procedure: The class will break up into pairs. Each pair of students will stake their
claim to an outcome for each chapter. They will then work together to create a
page on the wiki to explain their chosen outcome.
Format: The page should have the following sections. Check out
Mr. Lee's example page
if you want to see what your page should look like when you're finished.
The page formatting should be neat and organized.
- Outcome: The first section will be the text of the outcome from the
curriculum guide.
- Originator: The page that you and your partner
create should include your first names (no last names please... it's a
privacy issue.) as the originators of the page. Your name on the page
will stake your claim to the outcome.
- Explanation: This section will be a clear
and concise explanation of the outcome. You should try to explain the
outcome clearly enough that a student who missed class would be able to
understand it. Your explanation and sample problem should include a picture,
table or diagram relating to your outcome (Graphmatica
is a great tool for creating graphs, but looks like you'll have to save them
as a gif or a jpeg to upload them to the wiki).
- Sample Problem: The last section will be a
sample problem (...with a correct solution) that could be used to assess a
student’s knowledge of this outcome. All explanations and sample
problems should be your unique creations and not “cut-and-pasted” from the
textbook or the internet. You should try to make your sample problem
entertaining and creative.
- Links (optional): You may wish to include links to
other sites at the bottom of your page. These links might be additional
resources or related material.
Plagiarism Warning: Copy and Paste from the internet
at your own peril!!! Copying without permission from the author and without
clearly citing your sources is called plagiarism and will
severely affect your mark on this project.
Marking: This
project is worth 5% of your term mark. It will be marked for each major chapter
that we complete. The portfolio will be marked according to the
rubric posted
on the class web site.
