A.  SUMMARY:  The first thing you should know about a Shakespearean play, before you begin reading it, is what it is about.  Click on the picture below to link to the summary of the play.  In your notes, using ten lines or less, write your own summary based on information from the article.t the


B.  THE BACKGROUND OF THE PLAY:  The next thing you need to know is a bit about the
     background of the play. In your notes jot down the names of the authors/poets, and the titles of their works, that eventually lead to Shakespeare's version of the tragic love story.


C.  CHARACTERS:  The last thing you should know before you begin to read the play is the characters.  The play will be easier to understand if you know who's who in the play and their relationship to one another.  The following links provide an introduction to the characters of this play.  In your notes list the major characters and a brief bit on each of them.
