Independent Book Study

 

You are to select a book to be read by or before _________, 2006.  The book you choose may be fiction or non-fiction, but it must be a minimum of 200 pages and must be age appropriate (no young reader novels). Read the novel and complete the following tasks while you are reading. (15 points on term)

1.               You will have your book selected and submit the following information (on loose leaf) for your novel on ____________, 2006:

-         Your name
-         Title of book
-         Name of author
-         Number of pages
-         Genre (fiction/non-fiction)

2.               Complete three conferences with me.

3.               At the ¼ point, write a 200 word essay explaining what has happened so far. (due )

4.               At the ½ point, complete a picture essay that captures the themes, conflicts, or important events in your novel.  You must use three pictures (drawn, from magazines, photographs, or computer generated) and write a paragraph for each picture explaining its significance to the novel. (due )

Final Project (15 points on term): You decide – see below.  Please get handout/form to fill in and submit your idea for approval by ______. Projects are due ______.

1.      Give a brief description of your project.  What should the end result look like?

2.      Why did you choose to do this for your final assignment?

3.      How will your project demonstrate understanding of your novel?

4.      How would you like me to evaluate you project?  What things should I be looking for?  Keep in mind the project is worth ten points.  Where are you ten points going to come from?
