The chrysalids: Final Project Options

Value: 10 points on term
Due: November 7th, 2006

For your final project, choose one of the options below:

I.                    Build a Mutant

Create a mutant person, animal, or plant.  Your mutant must be realistic to the novel. You must produce a 3-D project (drawings are not acceptable).  You must include a minimum one page Inspector’s Report.  It should include:

·         Where and how it was detected

·         In what way it goes against the teachings of Nicholson’s Repentances

·         The Inspector’s ruling regarding what will happen to it (and to anyone found guilty of harbouring it)

·         An overall comment about your creation

II.                  Create a Board Game

Create a board game that reflects aspects of the entire novel.  Include at least 25 questions (you must also supply the answers).  Questions that show insight will earn higher marks that those that simply recall information.  Your board game can be based on one that is already in existence.  (Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, etc.)

III.                The Missing Chapter

Write the chapter that you think is missing from the book.  It could be the Introduction which explains how Waknuk came to be, or it could be another chapter that you think seems to be missing from the novel.  The chapter should be no less than 750 words. and no more than 1000 words.  The chapter you write must be clearly connected to the chapter(s) that come before or after it.

IV.                Chrysalids Soundtrack

Create a soundtrack for the novel that would highlight the novel’s key moments.  The soundtrack must have a minimum of 15 tracks, include an appropriate cover and list the songs (and artists) on the back.  Each song must include an explanation of the part of the novel it relates to and how you feel it communicates the action of that scene or chapter.

V.                  Student’s Choice

This is an opportunity for you to explore your creative talents.  If project options 1-4 do not appeal to you, you may propose another idea to me.  All ideas must be presented to me as one-page proposals. Tell me what your idea is, how you will go about making it, and what its intended purpose is.

Note:  Do not begin this project without first getting my approval on your proposal
