and technological competence. Over the course of the semester you will be
given opportunities to develop these skills through a variety of activities
carried out within the following units:

We will be reading Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night,
getting familiar with his language, and discovering how a 400 year old play
still connects to our lives today.

Writing
Workshop
Strong writing skills are necessary and important in high school,
particularly writing essays. We will focus on developing the required
skills through various writing assignments, mini-lessons, peer editing and
practice. This unit will run the entire semester.
Every Tuesday and Thursday we will use the first 15 minutes of class to
complete a writing mini-lesson. Notes
and work associated with these lessons will be kept in a writing notebook (a
duo-tang) that is separate from your English binder. In conjunction with these mini-lessons, each
Monday and Wednesday you will receive a writing prompt
to complete for homework. The completed
response will be due the following day at the beginning of class and will be
checked as you enter class. The work you complete in this notebook will be
checked twice weekly and collected at the end of each term.
Essays will be completed during class time only. Should you be absent on an essay writing day
you must complete it after school on the scheduled make up days or attend the
intervention room at lunch in order to complete it.
You will
complete two essays per term.
