Term One  Independent Novel Study
Value: 25 points on term one

You are to select a book that is either fiction or non-fiction, that has NOT been made into a movie, and read it.  Various parts of the project will be due throughout the term.  Please read the project details and specifics below carefully.

Project Details:
You will select and read a book on any topic that interests you (provided it has not been made into a movie), provide me with the novel information, complete a ¼ point assignment, and write a book review critiquing the book.

Project Specifics:

1.  Select a book (minimum 150 pages).

2.  Hand in to me by February 13th, on loose leaf or typed using complete sentences, (1) your name, (2) the title of the book you have chosen (3) author (4) number of pages (5) The reason(s) why you chose your selection.

4.  You will complete a ¼ point assignment, and final boo review.

The ¼ point assignment: Write a 200-250 word report explaining (a) what page you have read to at this point (b) who the main character is and what you think of them so far being sure to explain yourself (c) what the main conflict or problem  the character is facing at this point (d) what you think of the writer’s writing style – do you like how they are telling the story?  Why or why not? and (e) What challenges, if any, you are facing in reading your book.

The Book Report: You will be sharing  your observations about the book in a written review to help other grade ten students with their book selection next year.  You will be provided with handouts and lessons to help you write your review.
