 MOI, JE LIS HOMEWORK PROGRAM

Today we will begin our homework program, “Moi, je lis!” Research has shown that the more a child reads, the faster his/her reading and spelling skills develop.  Therefore, our homework will reflect this research.  Spelling lessons will continue to be given in class with our guidance.

The homework program will last nine months, beginning September 19th and ending May 31st.  Whenever your child reads a French book to you, please record it on the monthly reading log sheet which will be kept in your child’s homework duotang.  When the month is over, we will record each child’s total and the class total.  Each child will be expected to read a minimum of twenty books per month. For the remainder of September, your child is expected to read ten books. This works out to be five books a week or one book each week night.

Every child who attains the twenty-book goal for the month will receive a small reward.  Even after they have attained the monthly goal of twenty books read, the children are encouraged to continue reading at home.  Students who read twenty-five books or more in a month will go on the Honour Roll of Readers!

All of the children in the class who meet the reading goal for the year, with a total of at least 170 books read, will take part in a special Reading Celebration in the month of June!

Your child will be reading “just right” French books (books at their reading level) that are borrowed from the classroom.  These books should be books your child can read independently with very good accuracy (words are correct) and fluency (reading sounds like talking, with expression.) They should be “show-off” books for your child – in other words, if he/she is struggling, the book is too hard.
