Steps in the Research Process

Please follow the links below to find out detailed information

about each of the steps in the research process.

1.      Choose a topic or have one assigned to me.
2.     Brainstorm what I know about the topic.
3.     Create a set of research questions about the topic.
4.     Locate several resources.
5.     Read the first resource, looking for sub-topics.
6.     Create matrix boxes labeled with the sub-topics.
7.     Reread the first resource, adding details to the labeled matrix boxes.
8.     Read the second resource, looking for new sub-topics.
9.     Create new matrix boxes if new sub-topics are found.
10.    Reread the second resource, adding details to the matrix boxes.
11.     Repeat reading and rereading (investigation) steps for the other resources used.
12.    Choose one of the  matrix boxes and logically organize the details found in the box.
13.    Follow the paragraph model to write a first draft paragraph on the sub-topic of the
        matrix box.
14.    Review the paragraph checklist and make any changes to content, structure, and
        mechanics.
15.    Share the paragraph with a parent, peer, and finally the teacher. Get feedback.
16.    Make changes to content, structure, and mechanics. Show the teacher. Repeat revision
        and editing, as is needed.
17.    Create a final copy of this paragraph, and add appropriate illustrations, diagrams,
        charts, and/or maps.
18.    Repeat Steps 12 to 17 for each of the sub-topics.
19.    Put all of the paragraphs into a logical order to form the body of the project.
20.   Add a title page, table of contents, and bibliography, as required.

21.   Share my finished project with others.
