Jeopardy Part I

In this lesson, you will create your own jeopardy game using powerpoint and the trivia questions that you will make in part II.

Follow the tutorial step by step to create the tutorial. Once you are finished, you can put your questions in or you can put them in as you go.

First, open Microsoft PowerPoint

Go to "file" then "new". On the right hand side of the program, click "blank presentation".

Now your screen should look something like this:

We want to get rid of the words on the screen and have a blank slide, so click the first option under "content layouts" on the right of the screen, here:

Now you have a completely blank screen. Now we will insert the graph that will resemble the jeopardy board:

Go to "insert" at the top and down to "table"

Select 5 columns and 6 rows:

Once your table is inserted, stretch the corners to meet the ends of the slide so it looks like this:

Here is where you get to play around with the look of your jeopardy board by changing the colours and the fonts. You MUST pick a colour for your background and for your font: you can not leave it as black and white.

To change the background, go to "format" then down to background:

There you can change the colour you want for the background. Change the font colour by clicking on the "A" at the top of the screen

We want the words to be in the center of the boxes, so highlight everything on the screen (you can do this by pressing CTRL+A). Once this is selected, make the words center by clicking the centering button (seen below) and then make the words in the center of the grid by pressing this button on the table toolbar:

to center

Now comes the time to input the information on your jeopardy grid - your five topics and numbers 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 for each category. When you are finished it should look like this: (except with your topics up top)

Now that we have our grid complete we will start inserting slides for the questions. Once you have made one question/answer slide it is easy to continue making them for the rest of the questions.

First, add a new slide by clicking the "new slide" button in the top right corner:

Select the "title slide" layout from the options on the right hand side of the screen so it looks like this:

Here we will insert the first question for topic 1 (100). Once you have it entered, create another new slide

On this next slide, make sure you select the "title slide" layout like you did above. Enter the answer to the question above.

Now comes another difficult part. We have to make a "hyperlink" back to the main question page. This way it takes us back to the categories. We will do this by adding an "autoshape" and when you click on it, it will take you back to the grid.

In powerpoint on the "answer" slide (shown above), go up to "insert", then down to "picture" then to "autoshape". A small "autoshapes" box will show up on the screen.(as seen below).

Select an autoshape (use a star or a circle or something creative) and insert it at the bottom right of the screen. You can colour it in if you like by changing it's colour (double click to change it's colour)

Now we will link that star back to the main page by creating a hyperlink. Right click on the autoshape and click "hyperlink".

On the left hand side of the screen that comes up, click "place in this document" since we are sending it back to a place in this powerpoint

Once you have selected "place in this document", you will see a list of slides come up. Select "slide one", which you will see in the small screen is the main grid. Then press OK.

Now when you click on the star (when the slideshow is playing), it will send you back to the main screen! The great part is that you can copy and paste that star onto every answer page instead of having to follow that step each time you make a new answer page.

The last step is to return to the main grid. Highlight "100" (since that is the question we just did). Once you have it highlighted go up to the button that hyperlinks text (it won't let you right click and select it). This button allows you to make a hyperlink (if you can't find it, let me know and I will show it to you).

Once you have the hyperlink open, select "place in this document" on the left and then select the right slide to send it to. In this case, it is the second one down, but as you add more slides it will become tricky so make sure you are paying attention to where you hyperlink it to. Then click OK.

All you need to do now is insert a new slide, start with your next question, and follow the steps. if you don't know where to go back to, go back in this page to where you start inserting your questions!

Good Luck!
