Match the Habitats
Outcomes: Students will understand understand that different living creatures live in different habitats.
Background: Students often think of wildlife in terms of mammals and don't realize the diversity of organisms that exist in the natural world.
Learning Activities: 1. Brainstorm categories of living things such as: mammals; amphibians; reptiles; plants; fungi; bacteria; fish and micro-organisms.
2. Discuss each life form and describe where each can be found. During the discussion it should become obvious that each type of organism lives in many different habitats.
3. Together, list the different habitats that are found around the world.
4. Assign students to groups to illustrate one habitat. Have them research to find as many different types of organism that live in the habitat as possible.
Evaluation: Groups will present their completed poster to the class pointing out the different types of wildlife that have been included.
