 Food Webs

Outcomes: Student will become familiar with the term "food chain" and understand that all living things are part of a "food web" therefore depends on other living things for survival.

Background: Review the "Food Chain" concept.  

Learning Activities: 1.  With students standing in a circle pass around a ball of string or yarn i the following manner:

Ask the first student, who is holding the ball of string, to name an organism from wildlife.

That person tosses the ball to another student who must name another living thing that is directly linked in the food chain.

This continues until everyone is involved.

2.  Have one student drop the string.  What other organisms are affected by that one dropping out of the food web? 

Evaluation: Students will illustrate a food web in their scribbler and write a paragraph describing how the organisms depend on each other.
