Have each student/pair choose an apple from a basket.

Give them 10 minutes to look over their apples to find any characteristics which are special to that apple.

Each student/pair will draw the apple and list its characteristics.

After 10 minutes have students put the apples back into the basket.  Discuss the characteristics they found for their own apple.

Students then have to use the special features that they noticed about their own apple to find it in the basket.

Have students cut the apples open across the middle to reveal the star inside.  Note that every apple has a star inside.

At the conclusion of the lesson students should realize that every apple is different on the outside but the same inside (The star), just like people are the same inside even though they may look different.
