Cattail Facts

 

      Cattail is the name of a group of 14 wild plants that grow in swamps.

      Cattails provide shelter and food for wild waterfowl.

      The broad leaf cattail is one of the more common ones.

      Cattail  pollen  can  be  used  like  flour  the  silky  down  can  be  stuffed  into  life jackets  and  mattresses.

      Probably the most distinctive thing about the Cattails is their flowers.

      The roots of a cattail contain starch and are eaten when there is not much food to eat.
