Welcome to Readers' and Writers' workshop.
I expect that:
Poem in your Pocket Day is Thursday April 29. Prepare to share a poem! The Academy of American Poets is promoting April 29th as the third annual Poem in your Pocket Day (see http://www.poets.org/page.php/prmID/406). I thought you’d like to be part of the action. Choose a short poem (15 lines or less). This can be a poem by a famous, or not-so-famous poet that you love, or it can be one of your own creations. Find a wonderful short poem. Write it out on a file card or small piece of paper. Read it and re-read it and re-read it until you are sure of every word and every pause. If you can, memorize it. Put it in your pocket in time for Thursday April 29. Think about an appropriate recipient for your poem (remember: be sensitive to your audience). Present your poem to your chosen recipient on Poem in your Pocket Day (April 29). You should read (or recite) the poem aloud to your intended recipient. Write a report about this process. You may use your class time on Friday April 30 to write this report. Think about what you went through to choose the perfect poem, how you chose the perfect recipient, what it felt like to present a poem to that person, (maybe someone else was there, too?), how that person reacted, what you think about the gift of that poem in retrospect. This can be a lament, a reflection, an ode, a light-hearted memoir, or ...? You choose the format (may be prose or poetry). Make it worth my while to read it! Your report should be typed in 14 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced, and should be at least 200 (really well-chosen) words. Make every word count! Due May 6, 2010.
