Independent
Study
This project will require you to:
Undertake
some independent research on a topic in Canadian history.
Form a
thesis statement and provide evidence to support it.
Present
your research and findings in one of the following formats:
(a) Research paper (approx. 5
pages with a bibliography)
(b) An aesthetic
representation of your research with an outline and bibliography
(c) Multimedia presentation
i.e. Video Historical Minute (length to be determined) with pre-film script (story board) and bibliography
1. Preliminary Research: This stage will require you to conduct some preliminary research on the topic you chose to investigate. A few good starting places may be: Canadian Encyclopedia , EBSCO and Historica. www.histori.ca (4 sources-no more than 2 electronic) Due: Monday April 6 2009

Formulating a working hypothesis (thesis): Develop a question you

Finalize your approach. After deciding on the topic you
wish to investigate finalize the approach you are going to take to present your
research. Due:
4. Formal Outline. Submit an outline of the topic you intend to cover, as well as the sub-topics. Due: Tuesday April 14 2009
5. Reconstructing History- producing a historical inquiry. This will be your final product. Due: Wednesday April 29 2009
Included
with the independent study should be
footnotes/endnotes, a bibliography, and a title page/slide. Consult your notes for proper
footnote/bibliography format. The term paper will represent a substantial
portion of your grade, therefore work on it should commence well in advance
of the final due date.
