Canadian History 11 Portfolio

 

 

 

 


          As you engage in the study of Canadian History you will be required to complete a portfolio. Your portfolio will contain at least five submissions from the criteria listed below. The portfolio will represent 15 % of your final grade for Canadian History 11.

 

Your portfolio should contain at least five of the following:

 

 

1.    A visual representation of Canada’s cultural heritage (i.e. historical photograph, art work) and a written explanation (2-3 paragraphs) of its significance to Canada’s development as a nation.

 

2.    A 1-1 ˝ page essay on a social issue facing Canadians today. The essay should include: the historical development of the issue, and balance in coverage of the various perspectives related to the issue.

 

3.    Examples of statistical data that demonstrate changes to the “social fabric” of Canada. (i.e. First language/Mother tongue 1951-2001) This will also require a 1-2 paragraph analysis that clearly exposes the changes to Canada’s demographics you are trying to draw attention to.

 

4.    A comprehensive timeline on one of the following:

 

·        The evolution of Canadian sovereignty.

·        The historical development and advancement of “justice” in Canada.

·        An overview of industrial development pre contact-present.

·        The development of Canada’s “social safety net”.

·        Your family genealogy with at least ten other social, political, or economic events included.

 

5.    a) A 1 ˝-2 page reflection about a Canadian icon/hero that you admire. Why do you admire this person? What have they contributed to Canada? How do they personify Canadian values and ideals? What aspects of your personality are modelled after this person? (i.e. war hero, athlete, former Prime Minister, artist, etc.)

b) One of the assignments completed in class not formally evaluated. These include: Creation Myths summary sheets, WW I propaganda posters, WW I statistics, WW II concept maps
