Positive Effective Behaviour Supports (PEBS) is an initiative of the Department of Education which maximizes opportunities for students to achieve academic skill competence, social skill competence and lifestyle skill competence.

PEBS enhances the capacity of schools, families, and communities to design effective environments that improve the link between research-validated practices and the environments in which teaching and learning occurs.

It emphasizes the development of school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting expected appropriate student behaviours to create positive school environments.

PEBS addresses behaviour in all areas of the school, both in classrooms and non-classroom settings, such as hallways and lunchrooms.

Attention is focused on creating and sustaining individual, classroom and school-wide systems that support the development of social, emotional and academic success for all children by acknowledging desired positive behaviours while making problematic behaviours less effective and rewarding.
