Introduction

One very efficient way to use the Internet in your class is through the use of WebQuests. A WebQuest is an Internet based learning activity. Originally developed as a learning tool at the University of San Diego, WebQuests have proved to be a popular way to integrate technology into your curriculum.

This WebQuest will guide you through the process of creating a WebQuest designed by you to fit into your particular grade and subject area.

The completed WebQuest should be something that can be used in your classroom or computer lab to teach part of your curriculum.

The Task

Your task is twofold -

1. I would hope that you will learn how to create your own WebQuest that you will publish to your website (Remember last IEIE session), and

2. You will have a usable WebQuest to help you integrate technology into your curriculum.

The Process

  1. Research webquests by going to the University Of San Diego WebQuest page.
  2. Check out some good WebQuests written by other educators. Do this by going to my Technology Site
  3. Move the WebQuest template from the http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/training to  your own personal EDNET webspace.
  4.  Edit the Template and rename it to create your own Webquest to cover an area of your curriculum.
  5. Publish the finished WebQuest on your webpage, and allow access to it through the Internet access developed by your IEIE Technology Team.

Evaluation

Your WebQuest should be evaluated on the basis of how useful you found the finished product.

Evaluation

Criteria

Follow-up

Excellent

Webquest was finished, published, and was used in an actual lesson in classroom. Students found the WebQuest an enjoyable way to cover the particular outcomes.

Using what was learned through this project, other Webquests are used to teach other topics in a range of subjects

Good

WebQuest was finished and published, but teacher was not really happy with it, and it was not used in any actual teaching situation.

Spend some time researching WebQuests to find ways to make them more effective. Spend time updating and improving the webquest.

Unfinished

WebQuest was not completed, and therefore not published or used.

Additional work on WebQuest.

Conclusion

WebQuests are a logical extension as teachers move into using technology to enhance their teaching. They are an excellent way to allow students to work independently on projects.
