Students will be required to keep a journaling section in their binder.
Each unit students will receive related activities, which they must complete by the end of the unit.
Students must be prepared to work on their journaling activites at any time.
Students will be required to arrange a selection of their journaling (neat/edited) in their duo-tang, to submit for assessment at the end of each unit.
Journal duo-tangs will remain in their student file.
Students may chose to complete extra, teacher-approved activities for additional opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of the outcomes.

| KNOWLEDGE | At the start of each unit, students will create a KWL sheet assessing prior knowledge and current interests. Students will complete the sheet at the end of the unit showing what they have learned. |
| TUTORIALS | Unit-based concept tutorials. Activities will be selected which give students additional practice using concepts learned. |
| TEXT STUDIES | Unit-related texts. A variety of texts will be selected for which students must read and complete a thorough written review. |
| CAREER/ PEOPLE STUDIES | Unit-associated careers/scientists. Students will answer the common questions of, "when will I ever use this?"... by researching the careers and people who use the concepts learned |
| WONDER WHY ?/ PROBLEM OF THE WEEK | Unit-derived questions. Students will research (sources cited) and prepare a written response to their unit-specific questions. Questions & answers will be shared at the end of each unit. |
| LANGUAGE STUDIES | Unit-based grammar. Students will be required to focus on specific points of grammar for each journal activity. |
| PERSONAL REFLECTIONS | Unit-relevant philisophical questions upon which students will be required to reflect. Topics for reflective entries may be teacher-directed or student-generated. |
