Dear Friends Stanley had so much fun in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was quite busy at William Tredway Jr. Public School. Our school has 620 students from grade K-6. It is a French immersion School, which means that some of the students are learning the French language. In Ms. Arcato's class, students are learning in English. In Science, we have been learning about Air, Wind, and Space. In Math, we have been learning how to add and subtract numbers, patterns, graphing and much more. In Social Studies we have been learning about the different traditions and celebrations, that each of our cultures celebrate with our families. In Health, we are learning about safety. We have been reading many books by Jeff Brown. Of
course, we read Flat Stanley but we also read Stanley and the Magic Lamp
and now wee are reading Invisible Stanley. We can't wait for Jeff
Brown's new book o come out in March, 2003. It will be called Stanley,
Flat Again. Stanley had fun taking part in many special events that take place in our school. We have Pizza Lunch, Recognition Assemblies, Play Day, Kilo Club, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Arts and Crafts Club, Choir Club and much much more. Your Stanley was well greeted by our friendly staff
who showed him around the school. They all expressed that Stanley had
excellent manners. Our school is a Tribes School which means that
students and staff follow certain important tribes agreements such as
mutual respect, attentive listening, no put-downs, right to pass,
participation and appreciations. These agreements make our school
community a better place to learn and have fun. Toronto
is the largest city in Canada and the 5th largest in North America,
more than 2.5 million residents. The weather in Toronto changes a lot
during the seasons. In the summer, it can go up to 40 degrees with the
humidity. In the winter, it can go down to –30 degrees with the wind
chill factor. In the summer we like to go to the beach, swimming pool
and water slides to cool down. In the winter with all the snow we get,
we like to go skiing and skating in our many parks and arenas. Toronto is a city that receives a lot of tourists
each year because there are many things to see and do. About one hour
and a half away from Toronto is a place called Niagara
Falls where you can go and see the beautiful waterfalls and see
dolphins and whales at MarineLand.
We also have the Toronto Zoo, Science
Center and the Royal Ontario Museum.
We have a huge Theatre where the famous Lion King play is performing.
Our hockey and basketball teams, the Toronto
Maple Leafs and the Toronto
Raptors play at Air
Canada Center. The baseball team, the Toronto
Blue Jays play at The Skydome.
We are also known for the CN
Tower which opened in 1976. It is the tallest tower in the world.
Its height is 553.3 meters. You can take an elevator all the way up and
see a magnificent view of Toronto. Young Street is the longest street in
the world (1900 km/1190
miles) starting at the shore of Lake Ontario and reaching to Lake
Superior. We have sent you pictures, a Canadian flag, William Tredway Logo Sticker, Canadian map, and tourist information about our city. We want to thank you again for your participation in this project. We had a lot of fun. Have a great year. Miss Arcato's Grade 2 Class. |

Me and Flat Stanley were doing work and Flat Stanley helped me on a map of our playground and we got everything right. When it was time for something called the Star Of The Week bulletin board, we had two stars of the week and we did something called our Special Item. When we were finished it was time to go home. |

Me and Stanley had fun! Stanley and my class went to the library. Stanley helped me look for a book. After Ms. Healy checked our book. We went back to our classroom. When we got there, Stanley bumped his head on the ground. I let Stanley rest. When he woke up he helped me with my work. Ms. Arcato said, "It's time to read Stanley In Space" When Mrs. Arcato was finished reading chapter 3-4, Stanley was asleep. |
