| Dear Flat Friends
Thank you for allowing us to host one of your Flat Stanleys. We had a lot of fun with them, and they learned a lot about our local community. Glen Orchard Public School is located between the villages of Port Carling and Bala. We are about 250 km North of Toronto, Ontario. Each of these villages has a population of less that 1000 during most of the year, however the populations soar to upwards of 5000 during summer months when seasonal residents return to their cottages. Our students also come from the tiny villages of Mactier, Foot's Bay, Walker's Point, Whata Native Reserve and Glen Orchard. Almost all of our 350 students are buses to school each day. We are lucky to be situated in a beautiful part of rural Muskoka, with lakes and forests just outside our doorsteps. Our school is surrounded by amazing forests, and at recess we get to play in some areas of the forest. Our students enjoy many different sports and activities outside of the school, including, skiing, hockey, skating, curling, snowmobiling, sledding, bowling, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, baseball, soccer, swimming, hiking, bicycling, skateboarding, rollerblading, to name just a few. Thank you for visiting. We hope you can learn a little about our communities from your Flat Stanleys. Sincerely, Mr. Forth's Grade 2 Class |
